Description

BS5810 Power Steering Reservoir - Replaces HP5810 and R-10

The BS5810 power steering reservoir replaces the Seastar Power Steering HP5810 reservoir and Hynautic R-10 reservoir for hydraulic power steering systems.

Technical Specifications

Reservoir Capacity
2 qt
Construction
T-6061 aluminum
Mounting
Bulkhead mount
Service Parts
HP5815 / HS5199 / HP6082
Core features Includes a front-reading pressure gauge, fluid level indicator, and return line filter for easier system monitoring and maintenance.
System application Used as a remote fluid reservoir in hydraulic power steering systems on inboard boats and other heavy-duty steering layouts.
Installation notes Install the reservoir in an accessible area, leave room above and below for hose connections and filling, and keep the gauge easy to read.
Mounting guidance Install fittings before mounting where possible, then secure the reservoir level to the bulkhead using four 3/8" screws so the fluid level reads correctly.
Plumbing cautions Use brass fittings only in the power steering reservoir, filter, cooler, and pump circuit. Do not use steel fittings or Teflon tape.
Replacement note If you are replacing an older HP5810HY setup, reuse or confirm the correct fittings and adapters before installation, since the HY version originally referenced fitted hardware.

Applications and Installation Notes

The BS5810 is best suited for hydraulic power steering systems where the original reservoir was an HP5810 or Hynautic R-10. These reservoir assemblies are commonly found in older inboard steering layouts used on larger pleasure craft and commercial vessels where a remote fluid supply, visible pressure gauge, and serviceable return filtration are required.

Before ordering, confirm your existing hose ends and fitting arrangement. That is especially important when replacing older Hynautic setups or an HP5810HY version, since fitting configurations can vary. During installation, use the correct liquid pipe sealant, avoid tape sealers, and keep the reservoir level after mounting so the fluid level indicator reads accurately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does BS5810 replace both the HP5810 and the Hynautic R-10?
Yes. BS5810 is positioned as a replacement reservoir for both the SeaStar HP5810 and the Hynautic R-10. Before installation, confirm your hose routing and fitting arrangement so the replacement matches your existing system.
What is the difference between HP5810 and HP5810HY?
The HY version referenced a reservoir supplied with fittings. If you are replacing an older HP5810HY installation, you may need to reuse your existing fittings or confirm the correct adapters for the new reservoir setup.
Does this reservoir include a hand pump?
No. The reservoir assembly provides fluid storage, pressure monitoring, fluid level indication, and return filtration, but it does not include a hand pump.
What fittings and sealant should be used during installation?
Use brass fittings only in the reservoir, filter, cooler, and power steering pump circuit. Do not use steel fittings, and do not use tape sealers such as Teflon tape. Use the proper liquid pipe sealant instead.
What service parts are commonly associated with this reservoir?
Common service items include the HP5815 oil filter assembly, HS5199 seal kit, and HP6082 fill and air valve. Hydraulic steering fluid should also be on hand when opening the system for service.
