Installation Tips
- Secure the rudder or tiller arm so it cannot swing while you work.
- Remove the damaged boot and clean the shaft area so no grit is trapped under the new boot.
- Slide the new boot into position and confirm it does not rub or pinch through full steering travel.
- After installation, cycle steering lock-to-lock and verify the boot stays seated and does not bind.
Maintenance Guidelines
- Inspect the boot each season for cracking, tearing, hardening, or loss of elasticity.
- Rinse the cylinder shaft area with fresh water after heavy salt exposure.
- Replace the boot if it no longer seals or stays in position during steering operation.
FAQs
Do I need a boot cover on my cylinder?
If your cylinder model uses a boot, it helps protect the shaft area from spray and debris. If your system was originally equipped with a boot, replacing a damaged or missing boot is recommended.
How do I confirm fitment?
Check your cylinder model (K-22, K-27, K-31, K-33) and compare the shaft area to the boot style. If you are unsure, send Tech Support a photo of the cylinder shaft area.
